Eastern Sierra

Sierra Drifter guide Tom Loe reports a decrease in flows on the Lower Owens River and that fishing is fair to good to excellent, depending on the weather. His clients have fooled some large rainbows and browns on streamer flies. On the wild-trout section, the big news is the baetis hatch occurring about noon and lasting an hour or so. Blue duns and blue-winged olives sizes 16-18 are the hot tickets. At the Owens Gorge, Brock’s Flyfishing Specialists reports a decreased flow and very good fishing for those casting small caddis and midge patterns. At Pleasant Valley Reservoir, rainbows and browns are cooperating for those casting small spinners and spoons and fly fishermen using olive or black woolly buggers and matukas, among others.
