More than a dozen hip-hop artists took to the stage Saturday for Winterfest 2000 at Ventura’s Seaside Park.

About 2,500 fans gathered in the fairgrounds parking lot to hear popular acts such as Ludacris, Ideal, Next and headliner Warren G.

Ventura residents Lee Barber and Janine Clark attended the event to hear acts that don’t usually come to Ventura.

“Warren G was tight,” Barber said.

The Grammy-nominated artist was apparently unfamiliar with Ventura County, as he kept asking the crowd to “give it up for Oxnard,” instead of Ventura, where the concert took place.

Other than one marijuana citation, police reported no disturbances during the six-hour concert. During the 1998 county fair at the same venue, three people were stabbed during a gang fight during Next’s performance.
