Amtrak Rewarding Frequent Riders
Taking a cue from the airlines, Amtrak has started a frequent-flier . . . er, rider . . . program.
Called Amtrak Guest Rewards, it gives most members two points for each dollar spent on train travel; Metroliner and Acela Express riders between Washington and Boston get 500 points per travel segment. Points can be redeemed for Amtrak trips or flights on United, Continental and Midwest Express.
Starting Jan. 1, you can also redeem points for car rentals from Hertz; stays at Hilton, Westin, Sheraton, Four Points, St. Regis, Luxury Collection, Marriott and W hotels; and gift certificates from an array of retailers, including Bloomingdale’s and Barnes & Noble.
To enroll, call (800) 307-5000 or visit https://www.amtrak.com. You get 400 points for enrolling by phone and 500 points for enrolling online. Some Amtrak stations also have enrollment forms.
