Plastics Convention Scheduled in Anaheim
Southern California has been accused of having a plastic culture. Now it has a trade show to prove it.
PLASTEC West will debut Jan. 8-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Convention organizers say California was a natural location for the event. Over the last five years, the state has led industry expansion with a 24% increase in employment and a 38% jump in the value of plastic shipments.

Anaheim Trade Show--An item in Wednesday’s Business section about upcoming trade shows in Anaheim gave the wrong acronym for the Medical Design & Manufacturing West show. It should be MD&M; West.
California boasts 2,635 plastic factories employing about 138,000 people manufacturing everything from medical devices to automotive components, according to L.A.-based Canon Communications, which is producing the event.
The new show isn’t meant to compete with the gigantic National Plastics Expo held every three years in Chicago, according to Chad Rutt, marketing coordinator for Canon Communications.
“We’re just trying to fill in the gaps and pick up the regional areas,” he said.
The show will run concurrently with two other manufacturing-related Canon expos at the Anaheim Convention Center--medical device show MD&F; West and the Pacific Design & Manufacturing Show. Canon will launch an East Coast version of its plastics show in June 2001 in New York called--what else--PLASTEC East.
