Fox’s Nomination of Masry

Share

Re “Masry Named Thousand Oaks Mayor Pro Tem,” Nov. 29.

I hope the citizens of Thousand Oaks appreciate the extraordinary generosity displayed by Councilman Andy Fox on Nov. 28.

Fox has been on the council since 1994 and has not been mayor since his second year.

Councilman Dan Del Campo had already made public that he was going to nominate Fox for mayor pro tem. Fox was a shoo-in, but in the interest of peace on the council, he nominated Ed Masry for the highly coveted though ceremonial position.

I have known Fox for 15 years and was not surprised.

Fox will now not be mayor until 2002, when he is up for reelection. No one in the history of Thousand Oaks has voluntarily given up the position of mayor pro tem with the singular exception of the late Tony Lamb, who served with distinction while very ill.

* Congratulations, Andy Fox. I applaud you for your gracious gesture in nominating Ed Masry for mayor pro tem.

I hope this will set the tone for kinder and more gentle council meetings.

There is no end to the positive results we can achieve with the community and all five council members working together.
