A Palmdale assistant principal pleaded not guilty in federal court Monday to charges of soliciting sex with a teenage girl.

Clifford George Doty, 40, of Lancaster entered the plea to three felony charges stemming from a sting in which Doty allegedly used e-mail to arrange a sexual rendezvous with an undercover sheriff’s detective, who he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Doty, released on a $35,000 bond, remains under house arrest at the home of his mother in Littlerock, where he must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet to let authorities know his whereabouts, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in downtown Los Angeles.

Doty was arrested Nov. 10 when he drove to San Bernardino County to meet the detective who posed online as the teenager. Since then, he has been on paid administrative leave from his job at Quail Valley Elementary School.

His trial is set to begin Jan. 9 in federal court.
