Tarbut V’Torah came out shooting well and kept it up for the entire game, routing Liberty Christian, 74-48, in the first round of the TVT Gellman Hoop Classic on Monday night.

Geoffrey Keith, who transferred to Tarbut V’Torah from El Toro, set the tone early for the Lions, scoring nine points in the first quarter. He lead all scorers with 30, including four three-pointers. Teammate Noam Dashti finished with 22 points.

The Lions kept the intensity up on both ends in the second quarter and led, 37-16, at halftime.

“We usually shoot pretty well, but the thing that really kept us going was our defense,” Tarbut V’Torah Coach Patrick Roberts said. “When we play well on defense the offense takes care of itself.”

Center Paul Francis led Liberty Christian with 17 points.

Tarbut V’ Torah will play today against Fairmont, which defeated Zinsmeyer, 85-33.

“It should be a good game, they’re 8-0 and and we’re 5-0, so it should be our biggest challenge yet,” Roberts said.
