Police are searching for vandals who broke into Van Nuys High School over the weekend, causing thousands of dollars of damage to classrooms, offices and the cafeteria.

Investigators believe a group of juveniles broke into the school Sunday evening and ransacked administrative offices, smashed computers, broke windows, painted graffiti and discharged fire extinguishers, said Jose Aguilar, Los Angeles Unified School District police officer.

On Monday, some classes were moved to the campus quad and other areas, but the bulk of the damage was cleaned up by Tuesday morning, Principal Herman Clay said.

Total damage has not been determined, but Aguilar said the vandals caused $10,000 in damage to computers alone.
