Huntington Union Fails UC Prep Test
* Re: “UC Applications: Tough Time for the Deadline-Challenged” (Dec. 1): How ironic that the six Huntington Beach Union High School District campuses are among the 10 in Orange County that shunned the UC guaranteed admission offer to students in the top 4% of their class. The experience of children in our family has been that students are encouraged to attend junior colleges.
College counseling is not available. Marina High School has a solid offering of advanced placement courses, yet the percentage is extremely low of students going on to four-year institutions.
My senior was unable to acquire his class rank until October and had to delay his college applications. This is just one more example of the failure to place students’ quest for excellence as a top priority by the leadership of the district.
