An Awarding Night for a Club Reporter

Share

Last week we reveled in the ultimate scene event, the Hollywood’s Only Rock Nightlife Yellow Pages Music & Fashion Awards--sort of Oscar night for the Hollywood rocker set.

It was a night of mirth and merriment, as celebrants at Dragonfly patted one another on the back for jobs well done. Like the punk prom we never had, guests were treated to a multitude of hot scene bands--Otep, Box, Railed, Coyote Shivers, Pleasure Seekers, Jet 68, Motochrist and Lo-Ball, who wowed the crowd with a Flock of Seagulls cover.

Yours truly ran off with a trophy, all the way to the Camaro Club at the Viper Room, where I crashed Sal Jenco’s birthday party. Although I wasn’t on the list, armed with my major award (for my other life in television), they escorted me right in. Before I could make it upstairs to give Sal the pack of American Spirits I’d bought him, my main man and spiritual counselor, Viper employee Sean G, introduced me to producer Rick Rubin. Well, naturally, I curtsied (bow down when you come to his town). By the time I got upstairs, I’d been congratulated by rocker Taime Downe, the night’s deejay and also a winner, as well as hottie bartender Jackson Pollack, Burgundy Room deejay Loomis, Cat Club’s Slim Jim Phantom and Camaro promoter Josh Richman.

Sal, the Viper’s co-owner and manager, was so smitten with his smokes, he invited me to the club’s after-party. Oh yeah, we partied like rock stars that night.

Speaking of rock stars, veteran scene promoter Rick Calamaro just opened Fuel, the newest bar on the streets of H-town. Calamaro, who rose to fame with On the Rox and Grand Ville, finally bought his own establishment--the former Bob’s Frolic II on Wilcox Avenue. Along with Ten Gu owners Anton Posniak and Alan Nathan, the partners tossed an opening bash on Monday that included actors Jason Biggs and Elijah Blue and promoter Shane Powers. The partners also bought an adult video store adjacent to the bar, with plans to expand Fuel next year.

All right already, merry merry and as always, proceed with caution. XOXO.
