Thomas John Lake, a lawyer and former disc jockey, died Dec. 14 at Ventura County Medical Center due to complications following pneumonia. He was 55.

He was born July 21, 1945, in Chicago, to Robert and Mary Lenz Lake.

In 1968, he received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from USC.

He worked as a ski instructor in June Lake, Calif., and was also a disc jockey for KRLA in Pasadena and KREO in Indio, Calif.

Pursuing a law degree, he graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1978 and then attended the New York University School of Law, where he graduated in 1981.

Before moving to Ventura 15 years ago, he worked for the Nevada attorney general’s office, the Imperial County district attorney’s office and at the law firm of Oshins, Singer, Segal, Murphy & Morris in Las Vegas.

Lake was a member of the California and Nevada bar associations. He had been an attorney with the State Compensation Insurance Fund in Oxnard for the past 15 years.

He was an avid skier, tennis player and enjoyed spending time with his friends and two cats.

Lake is survived by his ex-wife and longtime friend, Shirley Youngs.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon today at the State Compensation Insurance Fund, 2901 N. Ventura Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Assn., 250 Citrus Grove Lane, Suite 230, Oxnard, CA 93030.
