Swerving Big Rig Kills Oncoming Driver
A father of three was killed when a 40-foot big rig collided head-on with his car in Santa Ana early Thursday morning, authorities said.
Antonio Ceja Godinez, 27, died when his sports-utility vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer carrying groceries, police said. It took firefighters more than 90 minutes to free his body from the wreckage.
The driver of the truck was eastbound on 1st Street near Cabrillo Drive when he lost control of the rig, swerved across the center divider and crossed into the path of the oncoming vehicle, Santa Ana Police Lt. Raul Luna said.
The truck driver, who was not identified, was interviewed and released. The California Highway Patrol and the Santa Ana Police Department are investigating the accident. --LOUISE ROUG
