Alzheimer’s Assn. Receives $42,000

A local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Assn. has received $42,000 from various groups to provide expanded services to Ventura County residents.

Oxnard awarded the county chapter $5,000 for an education program that will pay for a series of presentations to families and professionals at senior centers throughout the city.

Ventura County Community Foundation gave $15,000 for a bilingual educator to work in Oxnard, Santa Paula and Fillmore, and Swift Memorial Health Care Foundation gave $12,000 to provide one-on-one support for families. The Wood-Claeyssens Foundation awarded $10,000 to increase the number of caregivers.

The nonprofit association helps families and professionals meet the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease, a brain affliction that causes loss of memory and bodily function. The association provides programs and services for people with the disease.
