$500,000 Given for Education Center
An education center under construction by the Salvation Army of Orange County received a boost this week when a Tustin couple announced their donation of $500,000 to help pay building costs.
Doy and Dee Henley have been involved with the Salvation Army since the late 1960s and helped fund the construction of the nonprofit group’s church and youth center in Santa Ana in 1970.
“The work they do is something that nobody else does, and it’s important for us to be involved with that,” said Doy Henley, 70, who is a leader in the manufacturing business as well as a member of a Salvation Army advisory group.
The education center under construction at the corner of Pioneer and Jamboree roads in Tustin will house a preschool and will offer a day-care program and classes to children and adults.
The center will also include a gym open to the public.
Construction of the $2.5-million center is expected to be completed in fall 2001.
