TV Back On, but Standoff Stops News

The new chief of public television in the Czech Republic ended a daylong broadcasting blackout in a battle with rebel staff, but live shows and news broadcasts remained off the air. Although films and commercials reappeared on the station’s two channels, newly appointed Czech Television Director General Jiri Hodac imposed periodic blackouts to cut off transmissions from rebel newsroom staff who object to his appointment, saying he is politically biased. Hodac pulled the plug Wednesday to stop “pirate” transmissions from staff.
