College Names Distinguished Faculty Chair

* Professor Christine Aguilera was named Distinguished Faculty Chair for 1999-2000 at Moorpark College. Aguilera teaches mathematics and computer science and has been a full-time faculty member since 1972. She was chosen from more than 400 faculty members by a panel of Academic Senate officers and three previous chair appointees.

Businessmen Join Leadership Academy Board

* The Ventura County Leadership Academy has named three county business leaders to its steering committee. The new members, each serving two-year terms, are: Paul Baskin, manager of sales operations for Haas Automation in Oxnard; Joe McClure, executive director of the Economic Development Collaborative, Ventura County; and George Tidd, a partner in the Ventura firm Goldenwave, Internet Presence Providers. The academy, started by the United Way in 1994, develops leaders who work to enhance the quality of life in Ventura County.

Seniors Advocacy Effort Receives $7,500 Grant

* Long Term Care Services, Ombudsman Program, received a $7,500 grant from the Swift Foundation. The money will be used to support Ventura County’s advocacy program for the frail elderly.
