John McCain

As a moderate conservative, I am not surprised that Sen. John McCain’s message of campaign finance reform and his status as a war hero resonated through the insincere, party-line-driven message of Gov. George W. Bush’s “compassionate conservatism” (Feb. 2). The difference in my mind between the two candidates is that McCain is willing to buck the party line and seriously raise the issue of campaign finance reform, even when that is not necessarily in his best interest. That is a true leader.
McCain’s victory proves that the message and the man are more important than the money and the status quo.
