From Times Wire Reports

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) was hospitalized for a viral illness that left him with back and shoulder pain, an aide said. Kennedy ran a fever and had a cough Saturday evening and was driven to Sibley Memorial Hospital the following morning, said his spokesman, Will Keyser. “He is in good spirits, he is resting comfortably, and he felt good enough to watch the America’s Cup race,” Keyser said. He said Kennedy, who turns 68 on Feb. 22, will remain overnight for observation. The senator’s son, Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.), was at a House Democratic retreat in Hot Springs, Va., when he learned about his father. The younger Kennedy canceled his plans and flew back to Washington, said his press secretary, Larry Berman.
