Robitaille Has Become a Rocket Scientist

Luc Robitaille has become something of a hockey historian in his march up the goal-scoring list, having learned about Frank Mahovlich and Stan Mikita, among others.

Only two goals ahead, though, is a name that Robitaille doesn’t need to research. He could teach a class on Maurice Richard.

“I’m awed to be mentioned with him,” said Robitaille, who has 542 goals.

“He’s the Rocket. To any kid growing up in Montreal, he’s still the greatest.”

This, even though Richard retired in 1960, six years before Robitaille was born.

“The older people would tell us about him, and it was like we knew him,” Robitaille said.
