The San Diego section of the CIF recently approved roller hockey as a sport. What new sports should Southern Section consider adding?

TRAVIS PENDLETON

Esperanza, Track and Field

“I definitely think roller hockey should by added. I have a friend, Brandon Carl, who plays and his team basically represents our school. I also think the hammer and javelin events should be added to track. There’s definitely a lot of track athletes who throw both of those and we’re allowed to throw those at youth track meets.

CIF should consider adding table tennis and pool to its list of sports. Currently, anyone talented at either of these two games has no way of showcasing their skills. Southern California is a breeding ground for gifted players in both table tennis and pool. It’s a crying shame that these two incredible sports are not already part of the section.

I think roller hockey would be a great sport to add. It’s a lot like soccer. I played roller hockey in the street all the time when I was growing up. It helps with your balance and your hand-eye coordination. Like soccer, the object is to move the puck around and score goals.

Frisbee golf. I love to play when I have free time, but there are some people who are very talented and serious about the sport. . This sport requires talent and patience like all mainstream sports. More students could be included in the world of high school athletics.

Where does it stop? They should really be quite conservative about adding sports to the list that is presently weighing down some of the school systems. Most sports do not carry their weight when it comes to spectators.

BRETT LOCKWOOD

I really feel that the sport of bowling is worth strong consideration when it comes to new high school sports. I have played on a league for two years now and it would be great if they had it in our schools.

Do you agree with the recent Southern Section ruling that any basketball team with 10 victories--regardless of its league standing--can qualify for playoffs? Why or why not?
