Police identified a suspect Friday in the shooting death of a Canoga Park father of six, who was killed last weekend as he headed to a store on an errand.

The suspect, Lamar Julius Singleton, 39, allegedly shot 42-year-old Leonardo Gomez-Perez during a Feb. 6 crime spree that included two robberies, police said.

Lt. Mike Schneider of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division described Singleton, whose address is unknown, as a bald African American man who is 5 feet 10 and weighs 200 pounds. He may have a mustache and goatee, Schneider said.

Singleton allegedly robbed a customer at gunpoint in a Winnetka 7-Eleven shortly before the 10 p.m. shooting, which occurred outside a small shopping center at the corner of Roscoe Boulevard and De Soto Avenue, police said. About three hours later, he robbed another 7-Eleven, this time in Canoga Park, detectives said.

Police have asked anyone with information about the crimes to call the Devonshire Division at (818) 756-8291, or 756-8285 at night and on weekends.--SUE FOX
