Taylor, Irvine Beat Woodbridge to Clinch Sea View League Title

Matt Taylor scored the winning goal as Irvine defeated Woodbridge, 1-0, and won the Sea View League title Friday at Woodbridge.

It was Taylor’s 36th goal of the season for ninth-ranked Irvine (11-2-4, 5-1-2). No. 7 Woodbridge (16-3-2, 4-1-3) finishes second.

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 1, Downey Calvary Chapel 0--Jess Klanton scored for the Tartans (9-1), who clinched the league title. Calvary Chapel finished second at 7-3.

In the Empire League:

Century 2, No. 5 El Dorado 1--Alan Merida scored two goals and secured second place for Century (9-7-3, 6-3-1). Christian Lopez had 15 saves for the Centurions. Greg Reese scored for league-champion El Dorado (25-4, 9-1).

Kennedy 1, Cypress 1--Diego Figueroa’s penalty kick in the 60th minute tied the score and earned Kennedy a third-place finish. It was Figueroa’s team-leading 25th goal for Kennedy (12-10-1, 5-4-1).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 1, Trabuco Hills 0--Garret Petry scored off an assist by Andrew Lark in the 20th minute for Capistrano Valley (14-6-7, 4-3-3). Trabuco Hills finishes 11-11-2, 1-7-2. Capistrano Valley will play Dana Hills at 11 a.m. today at Trabuco Hills for the third playoff spot.

Mission Viejo 2, San Clemente 1--Sam Allen scored on a penalty kick in the first half and scored the game-winning goal unassisted from 20 yards out in the 77th minute for Mission Viejo (6-2-2 in league), which clinched its first league title in 10 years.
