Rabbi Named as Center’s President
The Brandeis-Bardin Institute of Jewish study and culture has appointed a Cleveland rabbi as its new president, officials announced this week.
The Jewish cultural and educational center, situated on 3,000 acres in Simi Valley, chose Rabbi Lee T. Bycel because of “his strong connection with the institute” and his “background of educating Jewish leaders and working with people of all ages,” said Laura Schwartz, the institute’s director of development. Bycel will start work in Simi Valley May 1.
Bycel, who was dean of Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, has spoken numerous times at the center as a faculty fellow, Schwartz said. Bycel replaces Alvin Mars, who was at the center for 10 years before leaving a year ago to start an East Coast Jewish prep school, Schwartz said.
The institute hosts summer camps and seminars for children and adults as well as numerous cultural events.
