North Hollywood High School won its third straight regional Science Bowl on Saturday, with Palisades Charter coming in second.

The five victorious students from North Hollywood were incredulous after the final match of the competition, in which teams answer rapid-fire science, math and technology questions. In the final round, the North Hollywood team bested the Pacific Palisades school by 104 points.

“It’s incredibly exciting, but right now it feels unreal,” said Nina Han, 17, a North Hollywood senior.

The Los Angeles Regional Science Bowl competition pitted 29 public and private schools against each other in a series of heated matches at the downtown offices of the Department of Water and Power, which sponsored the event.

Some schools were represented by two teams, designated the A and B groups. It was North Hollywood’s A team that took the top honor. Venice High School’s A team placed third, and North Hollywood High’s B team finished fourth.

The winner advances to the national competition in May in Washington, D.C.
