Farmers Market

* Your Feb. 12 editorial, “Save the Best of the Old,” was one big snow job intended to disguise what will become the downfall of a sacred Los Angeles landmark. The declaration of the Farmers Market as a historical landmark by the L.A. City Council will not prevent the soul of the Farmers Market from being compromised, crowded and ultimately crushed by “the Grove.”

Plentiful parking and carefree eating, people-watching and relaxing will surely be replaced by time-limited, validation parking lots and long lines to get in and out of the market. Sadly, the L.A. institutions that are most dear to my heart, Dodger Stadium and the Farmers Market, are both being altered in ways that will ultimately change them so much we’ll forget why they were so special in the first place.
