About 50 Northwood parents gathered recently to hear Supt. Pat Clark White talk about the intricacies of school financing and obstacles that Irvine Unified School District has to overcome.

The discussion Thursday was part of White’s efforts to explain the district’s money problems to its residents.

During the past few weeks, White has attended similar PTA events in other parts of the city to give parents a chance to find out why Irvine’s schools won’t stay the same without more funding.

“The district is willing to file a lawsuit” to challenge current funding levels, White said. “We’re pursuing this. But we don’t want to throw money away. We don’t have any to do that.”

Unless voters approve a $95 parcel tax on the April 11 ballot, at least $4 million in programs will have to end by next year.
