Ayckbourn Is Born to Run in the USA

“Communicating Doors” playwright Alan Ayckbourn, who has been knighted for his achievements, cranks out a new play each year. Broadway has shrugged, but many regional theaters in the United States find him just their cup of tea. Between them, the Laguna Playhouse and South Coast Repertory have produced 10 Ayckbourn plays since 1973--five at Laguna and six at SCR, with “How the Other Half Loves” the overlap. Ayckbourn ranks third in the number of plays produced at SCR, tied with Moliere and Harold Pinter, trailing Shakespeare and Shaw.

Clearly, this is one playwright whose comic stage communiques have found an open door in O.C.
