England’s Jez Lowe, 44, decided early on that the hard life of a coal miner in County Durham would not be his. Lowe has remained musically rooted to his homeland and will sing about it Tuesday in Ojai. The coal-mining livelihood--and the social and economic woes that ensued when the mines were shuttered--come alive in Lowe’s gentle music, filled with poignant reflection, humor and optimism.
