Ex-FCC Chief to Head AOL Wireless

America Online Inc. has formed a wireless-technologies division and tapped former Federal Communications Commission Chairman Dennis Patrick to lead it. Patrick, 49, will be responsible for strategy, operations and partnerships at the new unit, AOL Wireless. He comes to AOL from Doeg Hill Ventures, a venture-capital company. AOL has been acquiring companies to boost its strategy of providing online services on devices ranging from cell phones to televisions. Demand for wireless Internet connections and interactive TV is expected to boom as consumers seek to use the Web anywhere. AOL rose $1.69 to close at $60 on the New York Stock Exchange.
