The Planning Commission was split Wednesday on deciding the best use for a vacant lot on the southwest corner of Wilshire and Pomona avenues.

Of the six planning commissioners, three supported keeping the land for public use, while the remaining three favored rolling the lot over for private ventures, city officials said.

The city’s Museum Center board of trustees is looking into building a museum on the property to showcase guitar manufacturer Leo Fender, he added.

Other commissioners were in favor of allowing outside groups to use the 15,000-square-foot lot for private businesses or organizations.

The City Council will review the commission’s comments, as well as those from other city agencies, before deciding how to use the vacant land, officials said.
