Furniture Mistakes May Have You Sitting Pretty

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The prices on quality home furnishings were already worth a trip to Homemakers in Santa Clarita, but now owner Tim Hoffman has opened a warehouse next door.

The 3,000-square-foot building contains an accumulation of pieces that were mistakes at the factory or by the salesperson who took the order, cancellations and other odds and ends.

Hoffman has marked everything 20% below cost.

A Jonathan Lewis sofa, for instance, originally priced at $999, was on sale at the warehouse for $399. Some occasional tables that were priced at $200 were reduced to $50.

Most items are one of kind, so the $1,000 leather sofa on the floor the day I checked won’t be there when you visit because the tag read $399. What was wrong with it? The wrong color had been ordered, so the customer refused to accept it. But it may be the right color for someone else.
