Two firefighters were hospitalized Friday, one with chest pains and the other with knee injuries they suffered at the scene of a two-alarm blaze that gutted a Tustin home, authorities said.

Firefighters were called about 7:15 p.m. to a one-story, single-family house in the 1700 block of Faybrook Lane, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Paul Hunter. When crews arrived, the house was already engulfed in flames, he said.

A woman in her mid-30s who was in the home when the fire started escaped uninjured, Hunter said.

The house was severely damaged, he said, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

About 50 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, which reportedly began in the living room. They had to cut through a metal roof to find concealed flames, Hunter said, but extinguished the blaze in about 1 1/2 hours.

Both ailing firefighters were sent to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. A hospital spokeswoman did not have information on their conditions late Friday.
