Brea Olinda High School is being considered for nomination as a national Blue Ribbon School, district officials announced Monday.

For 17 years, the Blue Ribbon Award has been used to designate the nation’s best schools. Schools nominated for the award are selected based on student performance on standardized tests and a self-evaluation of the school’s progress on everything from student spirit to challenging standards and curriculum.

Brea Olinda, if nominated, will be visited by a national team of evaluators before the year’s winners are announced by the U.S. education secretary on May 24.
