Pair From Oxnard Arrested in Shooting

Police said Tuesday they had arrested a man and a woman from Oxnard in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday night.

Police said the two suspects had shot at Monica Jimenez, 21, and her brother, Gabriel Arellano, 18, both of Port Hueneme, as they were crossing a field on their way home. The bullets narrowly missed the pair, but shattered the window of a parked car, according to police.

The incident occurred just minutes after 10 p.m. Monday, when Jimenez and Arellano had been confronted in front of a Port Hueneme liquor store, police said.

On Tuesday, police spotted the vehicle of one of the suspects driving north on Ventura Road at B Street. Police said the suspects attempted to evade them by driving into and parking at an Oxnard shopping center.

According to police, they arrested the suspects at gunpoint and recovered a gun and a large amount of drugs from the vehicle.

Jose Cervantes, 33, and Gloria Cendejas, 20, were booked into the Port Hueneme jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and narcotics offenses.

Cervantes’ bail was set at $250,000. Cendejas’ bail had not been determined pending further investigation.
