Former LAPD Veteran Named Claremont Chief

City officials have selected a former 27-year LAPD veteran to replace Police Chief Robert Moody, who is retiring in February.

Thomas Scheidecker, who has served as police chief in the Central Valley town of Ripon for the last seven years, will begin work on Valentine’s Day, according to a statement released by the city this week. City Manager Glenn Southard said Scheidecker was chosen from 29 applicants.

Moody, 65, announced his retirement last year after 42 years in law enforcement. He said his decision was not prompted by the controversy surrounding the department since the police shooting of Irvin Landrum Jr. last January.
