The Angels were also dabbling in the free-agent pitching market, signing left-hander Greg Cadaret to a minor league deal for the 2000 season.

Cadaret, 37, played with the Cleveland Indians’ triple-A Buffalo affiliate last year, going 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 games.

Diamondback pitcher Bobby Chouinard was indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury on a charge of aggravated assault for hitting his wife and pointing a handgun at her head on Christmas night.

If convicted, Chouinard could face five to 15 years in prison.

Chouinard, 27, was arrested at his home Christmas night after police responded to a 911 call. He later was released on bond.

This week, Diamondback managing general partner Jerry Colangelo said no action would be taken regarding the right-handed reliever until the legal case is settled.
