Labor’s Influence

Share

Re “Union Officials Put Politics High on 2000 Agenda,” Jan. 3: The biggest special-interest group influencing elections today is the AFL-CIO, which spends several tens of millions of dollars on political causes. A majority of union members were never asked if they wanted their money spent on such things.

The AFL-CIO fights to expand the size and influence of government because lazy union leaders are trying to legislate terms that should be sought after through their contracts with each employer; many government jobs are unionized.

Workers wouldn’t need higher wages or government assistance if they had lower taxes, because they’d have more of their own money to begin with.
