A 14-member citizens committee wants to hear public opinions during a meeting Tuesday at Reseda High School on the best way to select the new superintendent for the 710,000-student Los Angeles Unified School District.

The committee of parents, teachers, students, administrators and political and community leaders was appointed by the Board of Education last month to assist in weighing the merits of candidates to replace Supt. Ruben Zacarias, who plans to step down Jan. 15.

Interim Supt. Ramon Cortines will serve until June.

“The committee needs to hear from as many people as possible,” said Ed Kaz, a government teacher at Reseda High who was appointed by school board member Julie Korenstein.

Each board member was asked to appoint two people to the committee, which will report back to the board later this month.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Reseda High, 18230 Kittridge St.
