High school students from across the county will compete Saturday in the Ventura County Academic Decathlon.

During the first day of the contest, which takes place at Oxnard High School from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., students will write essays, deliver speeches and participate in interviews.

The second day will be Feb. 5, when students will take tests in literature, music, math, social sciences, economics and art. That day will also feature the popular Super Quiz.

Teams have been studying since the beginning of the school year and are hoping to carry on Ventura County’s title as national champion. Last year, Moorpark High School won the national competition, defeating teams from 38 other states.

Winners in the county competition will be announced Feb. 6 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The victors will compete in the statewide competition in March.
