Bearing Costs of Area Code Changes

* Re: “PUC Drafts 424 Area Code Plan for South Bay” [Dec. 8]: Why don’t they draft it for the Westside (Beverly Hills, Malibu, etc.)? They can afford the expense of notifying friends, relatives, associates; reprogramming telephones and faxes; and making new business cards, stationery, etc. Instead, we, the less affluent of Los Angeles County, will have the inconvenience and expense. What a clever way of punishing us for resisting double-dialing in the 310 area. Or is it perhaps that the 310 area code will be a prestigious area code for the rich?
