The Millennium

Re “L.A. Again Leads the World--This Time in Party Meekness,” Jan. 2.

“There was something missing at Los Angeles’ millennium festivities: people” reads the first line of this front-page article. The Times blamed it on rain, fears of unrest, apathy, lack of a central gathering place, even a flu outbreak.

Ahem! Could it just be that more than a fair number of L.A. and surrounding area residents were sophisticated enough to realize the next millennium doesn’t start until the year 2001, despite all the overwhelming media hype to the contrary?

You want a millennium party in L.A.? Oh, you’ll get a millennium party in L.A.--on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2000. See you there.
