BREA
The demand for substitute teachers is on the rise, and Brea Olinda Unified School District is following the market. The school board is expected to vote tonight to increase the pay for its substitutes from $85 to $100 a day. The pay for substitutes who work the same assignment for three weeks or more will increase from $95 to $115 a day. Brea Olinda is in the lower fourth of all school districts in the county in terms of substitute teacher pay.
With a raise in pay, Supt. Gary Goff said, the district hopes to attract more substitutes from higher-paying districts including Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified, which pays $90 to $105 a day.
