Martin Gets UCLA Off to Quick Start

Maylana Martin scored 21 points to lead No. 17-ranked UCLA to an 87-60 victory over Washington State in a Pacific 10 Conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Pauley Pavilion.

UCLA (8-4 overall, 2-0 in the Pacific 10) held Washington State (3-8, 0-2) scoreless for the first 8:19 and jumped to a 16-0 lead.

Martin scored half of the Bruins’ 16 points during the opening run. Alke Dietel scored on a layup at 11:41 after the Cougars missed their first nine shots.

UCLA led, 40-18, at halftime, and Washington State was unable to get closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

Janae Hubbard had 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds for UCLA. Nicole Kaczmarski scored 14 points and Marie Philman added 10.

Victoria Harrod led Washington State with 14 points.
