SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Neighbors United, a North Tustin community group of several thousand residents, unveiled a Web site that supports acceptable development in North Tustin.

The group was formed in 1998 to preserve the predominant residential character of the area.

Neighbors United is protesting the latest proposal from Prescott Properties to rezone a residential site for a commercial retail center on the corner of 17th Street and Newport Avenue.

The 5.85-acre site is currently zoned for four single-family homes per acre.

According to Neighbors United, the property owner has tried to rezone the site since the 1960s and has been denied by the Orange County Board of Supervisors due to community concerns. Opponents of the zone change say the proposed commercial center’s expected impacts to the adjacent neighborhoods include significant traffic, noise and light pollution, drainage, and neighborhood safety concerns. Neighbors United’s Web site is https://www.neighborsunited.org.
