The City Council last week approved plans for a 434-unit retirement community near the Alta Vista golf course. Homeplace Retirement Communities, planned at the intersection of Rose Drive and Alta Vista Street, will be a transitional care facility featuring independent living quarters, assisted living units and a 90-bed nursing care wing.

The approved design was the fourth submitted by the developer. The latest changes reduced the number of units from 474 to 434 and eliminated a four-story facade. The new plan calls for the building to be three stories where it faces the street. The middle of the building will have four stories but officials said the top story would not be visible from the street.
