“The Big G Stands for Goodness: Corita Kent’s 1960s Pop,” a new exhibition devoted to ‘60s cult figure Sister Corita Kent, whose graphic designs were a weird hybrid of Cubism and psychedelia, opens Saturday at Cal State L.A. Nearly 50 silk-screen prints by the popular graphic artist (she resigned from her religious order in 1968) will be displayed alongside works by 15 L.A. artists including Mike Kelley, Allen Ruppersberg, Alexis Smith, Michael Gonzalez, Raymond Pettibon, Larry Johnson, Lari Pittman and Ed Ruscha.

Noted L.A. painter Lari Pittman will lead a walk-through and discuss “Kerry James Marshall: Mementos,” a new multimedia installation currently on view at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Composed of paintings, sculpture, prints and video works, the traveling exhibition offers a compelling commentary on the civil rights movement and black culture in America.

“Sakina’s Restaurant,” Aasif Mandvi’s solo show about an immigrant family from India, arrives at the Odyssey Theatre, co-produced by the Odyssey and New York’s American Place Theatre, where it won two special Obie Award citations.

he Kageboushi Theatre Company of Japan and Cheng du Puppet Arts Theatre Company of China will present their major creative collaboration, “San Guo Zhi (A Tale of Three Kingdoms),” an epic historical drama set in the third century at the time of the fall of the Han Dynasty, performed by large-scale puppets.
