Ruth Ann Moriarty, known for hands-on volunteer work, has been chosen a lifetime member of the Salvation Army’s Orange County Advisory Board.

Daughter of pioneer county developer Anton Henry Segerstrom of C.J. Segerstrom & Sons, Moriarty has been a member of the board since 1975. She’s a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary, which provides volunteers for tasks that range from answering telephones and working in warehouse distribution to organizing Christmas events and coordinating the adopt-a-family program.

“Ruth Ann has brought consistent and practical support to the army’s youth, family and homeless services in Orange County,” said Jan Landstrom, advisory board chair.

Moriarty, of Santa Ana, received the honor at the Spirit of Giving Awards ceremony in December. The award is based on outstanding contributions of time in volunteer work, said Bill Wenke, director of development.

“She’s a very loyal, very involved and very humble person,” he said.

Moriarty has also been active with other community groups, including the Visiting Nurses Assn., Santa Ana Assistance League and Santa Ana Ebell Society.
