Galley Is Expected to Be in Lineup Against Blues

The wheel turns, and this time it pushes Garry Galley onto the ice and Fran Kaberle down the freeway to Long Beach.

The Kings sent Kaberle, a rookie defenseman who played in their first 37 games, to the Ice Dogs after scratching him the last four games.

Kaberle’s removal from the roster means that Galley is added, and he will play tonight against St. Louis after being sidelined since Dec. 18 because of a concussion.

Galley will replace Aki Berg, breaking up the Berg-Jere Karalahti Finnish Connection, which struggled Tuesday night against Ottawa.

When Berg fanned on an attempted pass and left the puck on the ice, the Senators’ Shawn McEachern scored an easy goal to open the second period of a 4-3 Ottawa victory.

“Maybe it’s time for Aki to watch a game,” Coach Andy Murray said Wednesday.

The last time Berg was scratched, for two games in November, he became angry, and then he became a more focused player, turning in some of his best play.

Galley was among the most impressive Kings in training camp, and he had four goals and eight assists in 32 games before being injured. He also was plus-seven on the plus/minus scale. That ties Mattias Norstrom for the best mark on the team.

Murray held a meeting with Rob Blake, Luc Robitaille, Sean O’Donnell and Galley--the captain and alternates--on Wednesday to discuss discipline. Notably, the lack of discipline exhibited Tuesday night when the Kings logged 30 penalty minutes to Ottawa’s 10.

The Senators had two goals in five first-period power plays.

“Discipline is a coaching responsibility,” Murray said. “We did not play with the right kind of discipline.”

While the Kings were trying to rally in the third period Tuesday night, Blake found himself sitting next to Robitaille in the penalty box.

Stephane Fiset, pulled after giving up two goals in as many shots in the second period Tuesday night, will be back in goal tonight against St. Louis.
