* Wilson ‘Cad’ Caldwell; Sales Superintendent

Wilson Jess “Cad” Caldwell, a retired transportation manager, died at his Ojai home Sunday. He was 85.

He was born Feb. 25, 1914, in Hanford and went to school in Exeter. Later, he attended Fresno State University.

After moving to Ventura County in 1939, Caldwell became a manager for Lang Transportation. During the 18 years he worked there, he helped design a crane that has the largest lifting capacity in the United States.

Later, he became a sales superintendent for Union Engineering Co. in Ventura and worked there for 19 years.

Caldwell was also instrumental in installing a television line in the early 1950s from Dennison Grade one mile down to the Siete Robles tract, serving about 100 customers.

He was on the board of directors of Siete Robles Water Co. and Siete Robles Recreation Club.

He enjoyed trips with his motor-home club, the Riggers and Rockers, boating, water-skiing and golf. He also enjoyed working on his lathe, welding and helping friends build, repair and plan household projects.

Caldwell’s volunteer work included the Girl Scouts of America, El Camino Women’s Club, HELP of Oxnard and oil field barbecues at the OST pipe yard.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nadyne; daughters Shari Bischof of Huntington Beach and Gayle Jeffery of Ojai; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A celebration of his life is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to HELP of Ojai or the Ojai Hospice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.
