Today: Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), who is running for reelection, will host a barbecue fund-raiser from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jim Lloyd-Butler Ranch, 2317 W. Los Angeles Ave., Oxnard. Gallegly’s 23rd Congressional District includes all of Ventura County except for portions of the Conejo Valley. Admission: $100. For information, call 388-2727.
Sunday: Democratic Assembly candidate Jon Sharkey will host a reception from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the home of Fred Bowman, 3319 Tuxford Place, Thousand Oaks. Sharkey is a candidate in the 37th District, which includes Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Thousand Oaks. For information, call 492-1524.
